Kirsten, the Food Bank, and a way forward

Yesterday, I joined United States Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and others at the Food Bank of the Southern Tier to discuss food insecurity.

We spoke about new legislation to extend the Pandemic EBT program and expand eligibility to ensure all children have access to nutritious meals throughout the COVID-19 crisis.

Because of the pandemic, the uncertainty of school reopenings also impacts nutrition for thousands of children all potentially missing out on the free and reduced-price meals they would normally get at school.

Thousands of people in our district struggle with food insecurity, and the pandemic has worsened many of the contributing factors: poverty, job instability, food shortages, waste, poor infrastructure, unstable markets, and so on.

Fortunately, many of those can be mitigated, but we need leadership with commitment and foresight.

We can take this challenge on.

I'm ready to get to work on hunger and so many of the other issues plaguing our communities, are you? Chip in $3 today so we can see this through in November.
