Bringing broadband to rural communities

In vast swaths of the 23rd district, too many proud, hard-working people face a trade-off for their rural lifestyles. Roughly a third of families in this district lack access to the affordable and reliable broadband that could vastly expand their economic and educational opportunities.

In Congress, I will tackle what has gone from a real problem to a dire threat. It's critically important to close this digital divide—the gap between those with internet and computer access and those without. Sign your name and demand Congress take action to expand broadband internet access.

Broadband should be helping more families see doctors online, educate their children and grow their businesses including family farms. Families are parking outside of fast-food restaurants just to get Wi-Fi access so children can do their homework. Facing worldwide competition, farmers lose out because they are unable to react quickly enough to fluctuating commodity prices.

Up to 20 million people in the U.S. lack access to broadband, but this is a fixable problem. We've done this before, bringing to rural areas critical infrastructure like telephones and power lines. Rural areas that have broadband service have higher incomes, lower unemployment rates and stronger growth than those without, making fast, reliable access vital in all sectors of the economy.
